Emergency Rat & Mouse Vet Care
Rats and mice can deteriorate quickly when unwell, so prompt veterinary attention can be important. We provide urgent veterinary care during our opening hours for rats and mice requiring assessment and treatment.
If your rat or mouse is having difficulty breathing, is weak or unresponsive, has experienced significant trauma, is bleeding, is unable to use a limb or has suddenly stopped eating, please contact us as soon as possible or transport to your closest vet clinic.
If possible, call ahead so our team can prepare for your arrival. Emergency consultation fees may apply.
How Often Should My Rat or Mouse See the Vet?
We recommend that pet rats and mice receive a health check every 6 months, with more frequent checks sometimes recommended for senior pets or those with ongoing health conditions.
Rats and mice can hide signs of illness, and their health can change quickly. Changes in appetite, weight, breathing, activity, coat condition, toileting or behaviour should therefore be taken seriously.
Regular health checks allow us to assess your pet’s weight and body condition, teeth, skin, coat, respiratory health and general wellbeing. They also provide an opportunity to discuss nutrition, husbandry and any subtle changes you may have noticed at home.
