Emergency & Urgent Fish Care
Fish can deteriorate quickly when unwell, and changes in swimming, breathing, appetite or appearance may indicate a significant health problem. We provide urgent veterinary assessment during our opening hours for fish requiring prompt investigation or treatment.
If your fish develops severe breathing difficulty, sudden loss of balance or buoyancy, significant trauma, bleeding, marked swelling or a rapid deterioration in condition, please contact us as soon as possible.
If possible, call ahead so our team can advise you on transporting your fish safely to the clinic.
How Often Should My Fish See the Vet?
We recommend that pet fish receive a health check at least every 6 months, with more frequent checks sometimes recommended for fish with ongoing health conditions.
Changes in appetite, swimming, buoyancy, breathing, colour, body condition, skin, scales or fins can indicate an underlying health problem. If you notice a significant change, we recommend seeking veterinary advice rather than waiting until your fish is severely unwell.
Regular health checks also provide an opportunity to review nutrition, water quality, aquarium or pond conditions and other aspects of husbandry that can affect your fish’s health.
