Emergency & Urgent Amphibian Care

Amphibians can deteriorate quickly when unwell, and subtle changes in appetite, behaviour, skin or movement may be the first indication of a problem. We provide urgent veterinary assessment during our opening hours for amphibians requiring prompt investigation or treatment.

If your amphibian develops difficulty breathing, severe bloating or swelling, significant trauma, bleeding, sudden weakness or loss of movement, or rapidly deteriorates, please contact us as soon as possible.

If possible, call ahead so our team can prepare for your arrival. Emergency consultation fees may apply.

How Often Should My Amphibian See the Vet?

We recommend that amphibians receive a health check every 6 months, with more frequent checks sometimes recommended for those with ongoing health conditions.

Amphibians can hide signs of illness, so changes in appetite, weight, activity, movement, breathing, skin or behaviour should be taken seriously.

Regular health checks also provide an opportunity to review nutrition, water quality, enclosure conditions, temperature, humidity and other aspects of husbandry that can have a significant impact on amphibian health.
