Online consultations offer the convenience of a veterinary consultation without the hassle of leaving the house.

At The Wild Vet, we have developed online consultations for exotic pets to assist owners in resolving husbandry issues before they impact on your pet’s health.

The most common reason exotic pets present to veterinary clinics is due to husbandry-related issues, and in most cases, it is because they have been purchased with little to no accompanying information about their care.

A face-to-face consultation is always recommended over an online consultation so that we can perform a thorough physical examination at the same time. However, if you are confident your pet is healthy, if you cannot get to a vet, or if you would simply like some questions answered, an online consult is a quick and inexpensive solution.

While online consultations are not designed for sick animals (these need to be seen in person so that the patient can be examined and assessed), they are a great resource for new and prospective pet owners to ensure that their animal’s specific requirements are being met.

An online consultation may be useful for a variety of situations, including:

  • Assistance with the set-up of heating and lighting in new enclosures
  • When something just ‘isn’t quite right’ with your new pet
  • If you are unsure if your pet should be seen by a vet
  • If your pet’s behaviour is normal
  • Advice on new pets, and which species may suit your lifestyle
  • Nutritional and behaviour advice
  • Species-specific advice
  • New aquarium set-ups and maintenance

Upon booking your online consultation, we will be in touch to tailor a plan to your specific needs. Whether you have a problem that needs addressing or are in need of some professional advice about caring for your pet, we are here to help.

In order to assess your pet properly, we will email you a species-specific questionnaire and request photos of your pet and their enclosure.

Disclaimer: NSW legislation prohibits prescription medications being dispensed or prescribed without an in-person consultation.

After purchasing an online consultation, we may request additional information in the form of photographs or a video chat. This is included in the online consultation price and assists us in diagnosing your pet’s illness.

If a consultation is recommended in person at The Wild Vet, 50% of the online consultation fee will be deducted from the consultation fee at time of payment.
